When I came home yesterday I found that in a day's time my gorgeous cucumber vines had succumbed to wilt. I picked the last half dozen cucumbers and told my husband that they were done and needed to be pulled.
His response: "Oh thank God! I can't eat anymore cucumbers!"
So, until next year...
Our cucumber season is just ramping up! Mine have been s-l-o-w in reaching harvesting size although we have already had several to date. Both of us love fresh cukes either just served as spears with a little salt or most often as Creamy Cukes as a salad/side dish. We like them so much that I can't understand why, when they are in full production, I have trouble finding people who will take more than one of them as a giveaway. I guess I shouldn't offer any to your husband, huh? ;o}
ReplyDeleteI can eat two or three cucumbers a day by myself with no problem. I chop them up and mix with chick peas and dress with either balsamic vinaigrette or balsamic glaze. I also enjoy traditional cucumber sandwiches. But one week I had so many I put out a plea on Facebook and on my way to and from the office I dropped them off by the dozen everywhere! Our town has a large Italian population and almost everyone likes cucumbers with salt and vinegar. Even us Swedes! I have half a dozen vines just now blooming but I'm not expecting much in this cool weather.
