Fall Lettuce

The highs are have been in the low 70s yesterday and today.  I should have transplanted the lettuce yesterday but I just got to it today.

It is super quick to plant using my little Power Planter auger on my drill.  I spend about 5 minutes drilling my holes, sprinkle some fertilizer over everything, and then at that point I have to get down there and smoosh them in.

It sure goes a lot fast than digging each hole with a trowel.

If the weather would continue like this, I wouldn't worry one little bit about bitter lettuce.
But I went ahead and put shade cloth over them.

Mid-Season Reset

Yesterday I pulled out the dried peas, saving the seeds, and today I prepped the bed for lettuce.  It is a bit hot for lettuce.  I think I will tuck this tray back away on the east side of the corn where it will stay cool in the afternoons.

I used most of the rest of the compost.  Lovely stuff.

There are at least half a dozen cantaloupes large enough to see through the foliage.

The pole beans are coming

Beans for supper

The Sweet Corn has a good percentage of ears set.

As usual there are a lot of Ladybugs in the corn.  I guess they eat the pollen?
Because there are no aphids.  My bug ID app identifies this as the Seaside Lady Beetle which is a native,

The flowers are hitting their stride.

And today was a lovely day.

Riverbed Year Four

We put this large dry creek bed in back in 2019 to deal with a drainage issue.  This is the fourth year for the plantings.  Not only does this handle a lot of water, we really enjoy walking through it.  The grasses are not headed out yet, but we are reaching the end of the Daylily season.  Here are a bunch of before and after photos to show what it is looking like in its maturity.

Day Lily Day

Yesterday morning when I first set foot out side I could tell that it was going to be a banner day in the flower bed along our deck.  These two clumps of daylilies were fixin' to show off.  Every time I walked past them I snapped another photo so I would catch them at their prime in perfect light.

The bed opposite is also in its prime
