Dangerous Trees 2021 - Part 2 The Bigger They Are....

Today's plan was to finish limbing the Oak tree, clear a path across the lot and then fell the Big One diagonally across the clearing.  They staged their chipper in the yard at the point the top was likely to reach.  In this photo you can see four large, scraggly pines also on the chopping block.

Larry arranged ropes in the pine and then climbed the Oak.

Just between you and I... I think Larry might be a bit nuts.

Yup.

The top of the pine was tied off to a winch on the back of a tractor.

Finally on the ground.

And that was a days work.  All of the remaining branches and a good deal of poison ivy went into the chipper.  The trunk was sectioned into ten foot lengths.  The original order was for twelve foot lengths, but Larry determined that logs that length would not be moveable.  I'm not sure two feet is going to make a big difference.

As you can see, the tree was felled into an open area where we have been pushing over trees, and adding clean fill for eighteen years.

The end of day #2 and at least one more day to go
