Dangerous Trees 2021 - Part 3

Day Three the tree crew worked on the backside of the lot along our side yard.  And again, we sat and watched every minute of it.  It's great watching other people work.  Especially when it is hard work that you usually do yourself.  I could watch them drag limbs all day!  This is even better entertainment than the afternoon we sat and watched the town pave the road.  My husband always says that retirement isn't "just sitting around watching grass grow, dust settle and cars rust".  But it does include watching men work.

Their chipper even has a winch in case they get tired of dragging limbs.

Today they took down four big pines and one huge. dead ash.
They also felled the oak that was leaning over the road and which had been limbed up yesterday.

This was the biggest pine.
Larry even paused to take pictures from his lofty perch
and showed them to us afterwards.
It's not every day they deal with trees this tall.

They may look like just tall, skinny trees but in reality,
 they are tall, massive trees.

These pines are pretty top heavy and the more branches you leave at the top, the harder they fall and the more collateral damage you get to the trees at the end of the arc.

He whittled away at this one until he had a manageable top

They will be back for day #4 to finish cleaning up and fell
the last two tall trunks which are still standing.
When they are gone there will still be a lot of work to do.
These logs won't pile themselves

One of today's pines was solid all the way through.
The rest were getting a little dangerous.

It's always the base that starts to rot.

At least this makes them easier to cut down
